Our expertise

Youth & Education

Research with young people is governed by consent and safeguarding before it is governed by anything else. Everything else follows from getting those right.

Working with youth & education audiences

Young audiences are reachable and willing, which makes it easy to run this research badly. The constraints that matter are not sampling constraints — they are consent, comprehension and safeguarding.

We work to those constraints as a precondition, and design the fieldwork inside them.

How we approach it

What changes when the audience is youth & education

Consent and safeguarding

Parental or guardian consent where age requires it, participant information written to be understood by the age group, safeguarding-trained interviewers and a defined route for handling a disclosure.

Age-appropriate instruments

Questionnaire length, scale complexity and vocabulary matched to the age group. A grid that works with adults produces noise with fourteen-year-olds, and the noise is not obvious in the dataset.

Reaching students through institutions

School and university access takes time and goes through gatekeepers with their own approval processes. We build that into the timeline rather than treating it as a delay.

Young adults and transitions

Sixteen to twenty-four is several distinct populations — in education, in first employment, between the two — and the differences between them are usually the finding rather than a nuisance variable.
