B2B fieldwork benchmarks: what incidence and cost look like in practice
Incidence assumptions carried over from consumer research are the usual reason a B2B study runs over. Here is what the field data actually shows.

Industries
Fast-moving consumer goods research lives on consistency and speed: trackers that hold their shape wave after wave, and concept tests that come back before the category has moved on.
Research solutions
Continuous and wave-based trackers with stable sampling, weighting and code frames, so a movement in the data is a movement in the market rather than a change in the method.
Monadic and sequential monadic testing, in-home placements, sensory evaluation and hall tests, with product logistics handled end to end.
In-store intercepts, accompanied shops and shopper diaries in the markets where the category is actually bought, including traditional trade.
How we work in this sector
The value of a tracker is entirely in its comparability. We hold the sampling frame, quota structure, weighting scheme and code frames constant across waves, document any change that becomes unavoidable, and report the effect of that change rather than letting it quietly enter the trend line.
FMCG timelines are short and the temptation is to reach the number however it can be reached. We would rather tell you a quota cell is running short than fill it with sample that does not belong in it, and we will tell you while there is still time to decide what to do.
In many of our markets a large share of the category moves through independent and traditional retail that no scanner panel sees. Face-to-face fieldwork is often the only way to observe it, and it is a core capability rather than an exception for us.
