B2B fieldwork benchmarks: what incidence and cost look like in practice
Incidence assumptions carried over from consumer research are the usual reason a B2B study runs over. Here is what the field data actually shows.

Industries
Automotive research follows a long purchase cycle and a long ownership tail, and the questions worth asking sit at both ends: why this vehicle, and what happened afterwards.
Research solutions
Owners recruited by make, model, model year, powertrain and acquisition route, including lease and fleet, at defined points in the ownership cycle.
Intenders and recent buyers, plus dealership experience research including mystery shopping and post-service follow-up.
EV owners, considerers and rejectors, charging behaviour and in-car technology research across markets at very different stages of transition.
How we work in this sector
A specific model in a specific model year with a specific powertrain is a low-incidence target in any panel. These studies are a sourcing problem, and we approach them that way — registration-based sampling, owner communities and enthusiast networks alongside panel supply.
Fleet managers and corporate buyers decide differently from consumers and are a much smaller population. They need separate sampling and separate screening, not a filter on a consumer sample.
Electrification, financing norms and dealership models vary enormously between markets. A questionnaire that works in Norway can be close to meaningless in India, and we will say so before it goes into field.
